Communication
Website
The Communication Group’s tasks involve updating the website. Our work on the WYPIN website including updating and adding new things that come up at WYPIN.
The purpose of having this group was to expand the WYPIN organisation to the young people in the West by making sure our website is up to date and relevant. Another reason was that the website has not been updated for a very long time.
As a group, we first updated different parts of the website. Everyone was allocated a task to do. Members that have left the group had other commitments e.g. study, work and no source of funding to get technical support. The group members that have just joined this year for the website includes Shukria, Justyna and myself.
Justyna had updated the membership list of the WYPIN members with their photos and forms for the website. She has completed her task successfully and on time. Shukria has come up with new ideas such as looking at other web design programs and not just focusing on Dreamweaver. She has opened up new ideas to the group and has been continuously working towards the group’s goal. Susan (myself) has been updating the information on the WYPIN website.
We worked on the website in the WYPIN office. The space was a friendly environment. My favourite bit of the activity is learning from other group members. I learnt that it is not easy creating a website on your own. Also, I have learnt that there are more web design programs that can be used instead of just using one e.g. Dreamweaver.
I met new people from different cultures and backgrounds and learnt a lot from others. We then became friends afterwards. If I was to do it again, funding would be needed because it is hard to update the website without funding to get help.
Newsletter
The communication working group is producing two WYPIN newsletters each year: the winter edition and summer edition. The newsletter informs and updates the community and WYPIN members about what WYPIN has been doing and is planning to do in the future. It also showcases the work done by young people as well as celebrates their achievements.
Thanks to Toruna Ujoodah for spending lots of her time and effort in putting all the information and materials together to make the first winter edition. Her initiative has made it clearer and easier for other young people to continue the production of the newsletter.
